Where is Organic Growing?

Today’s Consumer for Natural Hair, Skin & Essential Oil Products

       Hope Gillerman, Founder & CEO
HGillerman Organics

Gay C. Timmons, Founder
Oh,Oh Organic

In October, we reviewed the legal standards for Organic claims, and, despite some initial confusion in 2003 about which standards for organics would prevail (USDA, ECOCERT, etc) today’s growing market for Natural and Organic products are gaining market share and more clearly define and identify their products, ingredients, sources and marketing mandates. Thanks to California’s Organic Products Act of 2003 (COPA) supported by the Federal USDA’s National Organics Program (NOP) most brands with at least 70% Organic ingredients stay true to the standard,  while others prefer to go the “Natural” claims route. Our speakers will share their own experiences, challenges and distribution choices.

Hope Gillerman, Founder & CEO - HGillerman Organics

Hope learned first hand the powers of essential oils early in her career. A former dancer with a recurrent back injury and certified Alexander Technique Body Worker and Instructor, Hope became skilled in injury and stress-relief techniques. She began to develop her own natural, stress-relieving blends, and later turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine to fine-tune her art, studying with a Taoist Monk and Master, who taught her to also consider the effects of weather, climate, sleep patterns as well as stress in creating her unique blends. Hope’s essential oils are designed to deepen breathing, relax muscles and improve sleep, and she uses only undiluted, unaltered organic and wild-crafted essential oils sourced from all over the world. Hope is a member of the New Beauty Magazine Advisory Board.  Her blends are available in leading destination Spas and Specialty stores throughout the U.S.

Gay Timmons, M.S., Founder- Oh, Oh Organic, Inc.

Gay owns and operates an organic and specialty ingredient distribution company which she founded in 2001 for the delivery of sustainable agricultural ingredients to the cosmetic and personal care industry.

A major industry consultant and advocate for regulatory protection for organic producers and consumers, she has actively participated in the organic and natural industry for 23 years. Gay holds a degree from U.C. Davis, and has an M.S. in Physiology; her introduction to the field began as a 10-year co-manager of an organic farm and production facility. She has served as Chair of the California Organic Products Advisory Committee, and was also Secretary on the CCOF Board of Directors and Chair of the Processor Chapter for 11 years. She lives with her two daughters in Los Gatos, CA, and her philosophy is “If it is not a sustainable act, it is not worth doing.” Food, relationships, business, consumer goods---all need to shift to a paradigm that measures them by their sustainability.
