Science in Cosmetics: Skintellectual's Concerns about Science, Claims and Trends
The 21st century has seen the birth of a new trend in skincare: skintellectualism. This new breed of consumer skintellectuals has adopted a vigorous investigative approach to their skin care choices, medical procedures, skin routines and diligently educate themselves about ingredients and benefits beforehand. Skintellectuals expect higher levels of science-driven product design as well as believable product claim support. We’ve seen an explosion of science-based efficacious and safe technologies from raw material suppliers who provide extensive pre-clinical and clinical research to support ingredient benefits and safety. This same scientific approach requires pre-evaluation and integration into the final product prior to launch. Thus, in vitro, ex vivo and clinical testing should be part of today’s product development timeline as well as safety testing and improved consumer education to give your brand the leading edge.
